"2025 looks promising for new electronic music, especially for the synthwave scene, and we wanted to start it with an amazing artist/producer; DEPALMA is the modern synthwave brainchild of producer/singer Magdiel Montano, and although this track 'BAD' is some years old, it's worth to give it a proper highlight.

For us, this one is special, since it's one of the tracks that caught a lot of our attention in 2024; It is also worth mentioning, that this is not the first time that DE PALMA is in our ears and main playlist, we also consider another of his tracks a superb highlight: 'BLOOD' when we discovered it back in 2019 (and had it on repeat for a while; attached is the video below too). DE PALMA is a mysterious project (since it has a lot of potential and delivers with very high quality), in the sense that, we question why the project hasn't released a full EP or ALBUM yet, but we'll keep waiting, no doubt it will be worth it.

And specifically, talking about 'BAD', the track has a mix of modern and classic synthwave sound, and Magdiel is very skilled at composing very catchy songs, with extremely compelling choruses. The synth melodies are always on point and give the track an immersion that only gets even more elevated with the vocal layer.

THIS SONG IS ACTUALLY ABOUT 6 YEARS OLD. I HAD COME UP WITH THE PROGRESSION VERY SIMPLE JUST THREE CHORDS BUT I AS USUALLY DO BEFORE COMMITTING TO AN IDEA I HAVE TO MAKE SURE THE PROGRESSION FEELS COOL TO BEGIN WITH BEFORE I MOVE ON TO ADDING MORE LAYERS SO I HAD DONE THAT AND ALSO HAD A DRUM PATTERN THAT FELT COOL. FROM THERE I STARTED TO MESS AROUND WITH THIS WEIRD ARTURIA SYNTH SOUND THAT I ENDED MASSAGING A BIT TO ACHIEVE A LESS ORTHODOX SOUND CUS IT WAS WAY CRAZY SOUNDING BUT I WAS TAKEN BY IT AND STARTED TO DO THE LEAD WHICH IS THE MAIN THING THAT MADE ME WANT TO FINISH THE TRACK PRETTY QUICKLY I CAME UP WITH THE VERSES. WHEN IT WAS TIME TO DO THE CHORUS I HAD WRITTEN THIS IDEA ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO AND HAD USED THAT CHORUS ON ANOTHER SONG I USED TO PLAY LIVE. I ENDED UP SWITCHING IT FOR THIS ONE CUS I JUST KIND OF TELL RIGHT AWAY IT WAS MEANT FOR THIS SONG. I USED ALOT COOL SAMPLES FROM THE 80S LIKE THE ROLAND JD-990. THE CLAP ON THE VERSES THATS MORE LIKE A PINK NOISE IT WAS AN IDEA I HAD AND INSPIRED BY ALOT OF DEPECHE MODE TRACKS. I LOVE THE WAY THEY USE THE MOST INUSUAL NOISES AND SOUNDS AND MAKE GREAT DYNAMIC. DEPENDS ON THE TRACK BUT I LIKE CREATING TEXTURES AND DYNAMIC SO WHEN THE CHORUS COMES THE SNARE COMES OUT AS A TREAT AND WITH VENGEANCE!. THE SYNTHS I USED ON THIS WERE THE PROPHET 6, THE PROPHET REV 2 BY SEQUENTIAL DAVE SMITH INSTRUMENTS. I WAS ABLE TO PROGRAM IN MY OPINION SOME AMAZING PADS AND STABS. I TOOK MY TIME PROCESSING THESE SOUNDS WITH ALOT OF EVENTIDE PLUG-INS, I LOVE EVENTIDE ALOT AND USE THE H3000 PRETTY MUCH ON EVERYTHING FOR CHORUS OR PHASER OR DELAYS. JUST INCREDIBLE STUFF THEY MAKE AND ITS MAKE MY PROCESS SO MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE HONESTLY. BEHIND THIS SONG STORY THOGH ITS PRETTY MUCH A CONVERSATION THAT I FEEL ALOT OF US CAN CONNECT WHEN THERE'S A MOMENT OF TRUTH AND YOU ARE WAITING ON SOMEONE TO BE DIRECT AND HONEST WITH YOU BUT FOR SOME REASON THEY ONLY WANT TO POINT OUT FLAWS BECAUSE IN REALITY THEMSELVES ARE IN ALOT OF TROUBLE
